Experts Series: Laws and Regulations and Their Impact on School-based Practitioners
Do you find the multitude of laws and regulations in school-based practice confusing? Do you want to know what you can and cannot do to abide by these laws, while also practicing within the scope of your professional licensure?
Apply EBP Experts are here to help you with the alphabet soup of laws and regulations, from IDEA, ESSA, Section 504, ADA, FERPA, HIPAA, and Medicaid, and their impact on your practice!
In Seminar 1, Beth will discuss critical elements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to support your decision-making & provision of services to students with disabilities. In Seminar 2, Bridgette will discuss how the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) described in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) impacts your practice. You will learn important considerations for when you should be involved, as well as strategies you can provide to support Universal Design for Learning (UDL), physical health, and mental health of all children. Seminar 3 will cover privacy and anti-discrimination laws. Laurie will contrast Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) & the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) so you can learn how to remain in compliance with these laws. Laurie will also provide you with decision-making considerations for providing services under Section 504. Finally, in Seminar 4, Laurie will discuss federal Medicaid guidance, audit findings, and case law to provide you with strategies to ensure your services and documentation are both educationally relevant and Medicaid compliant.
Leave the course with decision-making guides, concrete strategies, and the confidence to abide by these various laws within your scope of practice.
