MD CE Requirements for Licensees
The following excerpts were retrieved from the Maryland Board of PT Examiners Continuing Education website on 2/17/2022. Please note that we are providing this for your information only. It is the responsibility of the licensee to know and keep up to date with their state’s regulations.
“Continuing education is a requirement for renewal or reinstatement of licenses for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants (Continuing Education COMAR 10.38.08.03). A licensee shall earn CEUs between April 1 and March 31 during the 2-year period before renewal and maintain the records of the course subject, hours, date, and continuing education units to present to the Board on request.
A physical therapist shall earn 3.0 CEUs equal to 30 contact hours for the renewal period.
A physical therapy assistant shall earn 2.0 CEUs equal to 20 contact hours for the renewal period
The Board shall audit the continuing education records of as many licensees as time and resources allow.
IMPORTANT:
- Continuing education courses sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association are automatically approved by the Board
- Licensees have the freedom to take any continuing education course whether it is submitted to the Board for approval or not.
- Licensees may request, at no expense, for the Board to review a continuing education course if it is not on either the approved or non-approved lists.
