Start-of-the-Year Family Introduction Letter, Download Your Free Template

Q: What should I include in my start-of-the-year introduction letter for parents/guardians?

There are 3 essential things to include in your introduction letter:

      1. Who are you?
        • This is the obvious! It’s not an introduction letter without your name and title.
      2. What is your role?
        • Think of this as your chance to share your elevator pitch, as well as, to show how you value their child’s success in the school!
        • Highlight your unique role as a school-based therapist. By doing so, you are starting an open communication and understanding of what you do in the schools, while at the same time demonstrating how your role is distinct from that of a medical-based therapist.
        • Here are some things to include:
          • If you are providing services under IDEA, explain that your main role is to help their child achieve their IEP goals.
          • Share that the focus of your interventions is to support their child in accessing their education and promoting school participation.
          • Add that you will be providing services where their child needs your support across the school environments.
      3. How can you be reached?
        • Illustrate that this introduction letter is just the start of an open communication and trust that you would like to build with the family.
        • Include your email address and phone number (office and/or mobile phone number).
