Peggy Morris, OTD, OTR/L, BCP is an OT with 30+ years of peds experience in early intervention, private practice & out-patient, but most of her experience & passion is in school-based practice. She coordinates the post-professional MS and OTD programs & school-based certificate program at Tufts University. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics through the AOTA, and a regular SeekFreaks contributor.

 

Patti Sharp, OTD, OTR/L, BCP is a certified CO-OP Instructor, and OT at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). She co-leads the Developmental Coordination Disorder Community of Practice at CCHMC. She is an adjunct instructor at the University of Cincinnati. She works with children and youth with DCD, ASD, CP, SCI, TBI, orthopedic and neurologic injuries, and developmental delay. She also previously worked in neurorehabilitation and burn units. Patti is excited to share her passion for evidence-based practices with her therapy colleagues.

 

Erin Iverson, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist is a Certified CO-OP Instructor. She is an outpatient, pediatric physical therapist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). She earned her DPT from Ohio University in 2010 and became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy in 2015. Erin is contributing to the development of the Clinical Practice Guideline for Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) sponsored by the APTA. She is also co-leader of the DCD Translating Research and Clinical Knowledge Team at CCHMC. She has a strong passion for spreading awareness of DCD and the CO-OP Approach to practitioners and caregivers in hopes of providing treatment to this under-diagnosed and under-served population.

At the completion of the course, you are expected to:

      1. Identify the efficacy of at least 2 therapy interventions for fine motor and visual motor skills.
      2. Determine 2 evidence-informed strategies to help children with visual perception difficulties successfully participate in their education, ADLs or other areas of function
      3. Apply 2 evidence-informed principles in designing interventions for achieving goals in handwriting, dressing or other meaningful activities, for a case scenario of a child with fine motor and visual motor challenges
      4. Determine 3 benefits of CO-OP for motor skill acquisition
      5. Identify 3 types of client diagnoses that can benefit from the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach
      6. Select 3 concrete CO-OP strategies that can help a child’s motor skills when participating in ADLs, recreation, or other meaningful occupation
      7. Identify 3 primary symptoms of cerebral palsy that impact your pediatric client’s motor performance
      8. Determine 3 features of effective, evidence-supported interventions for children with cerebral palsy
      9. Apply 3 strategies to facilitate achievement of functional goals for children with cerebral palsy in the school, home, or community environment on a given case study
      10. Identify 2 diagnoses that are frequently associated with functional handwriting problems for children
      11. Determine 3 features of effective handwriting intervention that are supported by evidence
      12. Apply 3 strategies to remediate handwriting difficulties in the school, home, or community environment on a given case study
