Peggy Morris, OTD, OTR/L, BCP is an OT with 30+ years of peds experience in early intervention, private practice & out-patient, but most of her experience & passion is in school-based practice. She coordinates the post-professional MS and OTD programs & school-based certificate program at Tufts University. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics through the AOTA, and a regular SeekFreaks contributor.

 

Jennifer Wissinger, PT, DPT, ABPTS-Certified PCS serves early intervention and preschool children in Columbus, OH. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric PT with over 15 years of experience practicing in public schools (preschool through high school), county board of developmental disability programs for adults, home health care, and early intervention. She enjoys engaging learners of all levels to use evidence and to work collaboratively in teams to serve children and their families.

 

Sue Cecere, PT, MHS is the owner of Sequoia School Based Therapy Solutions, LLC, a consulting company that supports districts, agencies and therapists in the practice of school-based therapy services. Her career spans 25 years in the school based and early intervention practice settings as a service provider and program administrator. She co-authored several APTA fact sheets on school practice issues.

At the completion of the course, you are expected to:

      1. Recognize two opportunities for collaboration in the IEP development process.
      2. Identify examples of related service provider’s contribution to two sections in the IEP to support the team and the education of a student with a disability in school.
      3. Select two examples of how a related service provider can address participation through service delivery as part of a team in an educational setting.
      4. Select a participation-based/ occupation-based goal on a given case scenario
      5. Determine 2 strategies for creating a simple data collection system for a goal
      6. Use the analysis of client data for clinical decision-making, given graphed data of a case scenario
      7. Identify the common types of supplementary aids and services that can assist a child in participating in their education
      8. Select IEP elements where supplementary aids and services are documented
      9. Determine the ways therapists, as related service providers, can support the decision-making and/or delivery of supplementary aids and services
      10. Identify 3 steps that can assist you in resolving conflicts during school team meetings
      11. Determine 3 IDEA considerations that can impact a school-based therapist’s contribution to the IEP process.
      12. Select 3 ethical principles which may impact a school-based therapist when making IEP service decisions.
