Laurie Ray, MPT, PhD has over 17 years of experience in school-based practice and is a state-level PT consultant for public schools. She is a co-author and co-publisher of www.SeekFreaks.com, an evidence-based online resource for pediatric PTs, OTs, and SLPs. She also consults for Medicaid and Adapted Physical Education for her state and is an Associate Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. Laurie is the chair of the APTA Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapists’ School-based Special Interest Group.
Karen Tartick, PT has been practicing for over 30 years in a variety of settings including outpatient orthopedics, early intervention, acute care, NICU, and school-based physical therapy. She currently practices in the Durham Public Schools in Durham, NC. Karen has served as a member of the Autism subcommittee of the School Based Physical Therapy Special Interest Group, and co-authored the Autism Spectrum Disorder Guide for parents on the Move ForwardPT website, the APTA’s consumer webpage. Karen is an APTA Advanced Clinical Instructor, and a mentor for school-based portion of the pediatric residency program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she serves as an adjunct faculty member.
Connie Johnson, PT, DScPT, ABPTS-Certified PCS is a school-based physical therapist, adjunct faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University and the creator of Fit4Work. Her primary areas of expertise are on health, wellness and participation in school and work environments for youth with developmental disabilities. She is an active member of the APTA, Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy and serves as Co-Chair of the Practice Development Committee and members of Adults with Developmental Disabilities and School Special Interest Groups and has co-authored numerous fact sheets. She has published in the areas of developmental disability, physical activity and use of the Guide to PT Practice in peer reviewed journals. She is the author of Fit4Work: Fitness for Vocational Tasks for Youth with Disabilities.
Anne Kiraly-Alvarez OTD, OTR/L, SCSS is the program director of the OT Program at Midwestern University in IL. She has worked as an OT primarily with children, adolescents, and young adults in school-based settings.

- Select 2 assessment tools aligned with post-secondary transition outcomes of college, career or independent living on a given case scenario
- Select 3 predictors of postsecondary outcomes in the areas of employment, postsecondary education and/or independent living
- Identify 2 therapy interventions that can be implemented in elementary school to help optimize the predictors of postsecondary outcomes
- Determine 2 therapy interventions that can be implemented
- Apply the ergonomic health risk pathway to promote future employment for a case study of an individual with developmental disabilities
- Interpret results of a Fit4Work Screen on a given case study
- Select 2 interventions to address work-related skill deficits identified in the Fit4Work Screen on a given case study
- Identify 3 roles of OT, PT, and Speech practitioners in developing and implementing a life skills program
- Select 2 tools and strategies for identifying the needs for a life skills program within a school/district
- Apply 3 strategies to a case example that OT, PT, or Speech practitioners can use to develop a life skills program
